Maison Umami is home to Umami Food Studio and the heart of our operations. When my husband and I moved back from Cape Town in 2017, this house stood out for its open layout, elevated garden view and inviting atmosphere. With cooking classes in mind, it was a dream come true. 

I am a firm believer in exquisite craftsmanship, quality and functional minimalism: less is more but style is nothing without comfort. That’s why Maison Umami is elegantly, but also comfortably, decorated with bespoke furniture and artworks handpicked from all over South Africa. There is also an edible garden, supplying exotic oriental herbs and vegetables directly to the cooking class and our small batch products.

NB: In our cooking classes, we don't have individual cooking stations where everybody gets to cook their own but we cook communally as a group. We are also not halal, kosher, vegan certified even though we run halal and vegan classes. Please check on our FAQs for more detail.
